Ode to My Twenties

Today is the last day of my twenties. Tomorrow is my Golden Birthday and I'll be 30 on the 30th ;-)

Night of my 27th birthday, the most life changing of the twenties

As I look back over the last decade, I can't help but smile, shake my head and just laugh. It feels like I've been through it all! Let's recap...

experienced life on the campus of an HBCU after years in a predominantly white educational environment
met people who changed my views, pushed me to be better and ultimately became life long friends
graduated from undergrad then moved across country to pursue acting in LA
became a professional server instead
gave up on my dream & moved back home in hopes of finding love
got my first apartment on my own sans roommates
learned that credit cards were not my friend and how to better manage my money
decided to go to graduate school to pursue my masters
found out that the love I thought would last forever was really a bust
continued on the career path of a professional server while working a day job that i hated
got promoted, fired and then rehired as a contractor all within 6 months at said job
became a little too friendly with alcohol and paid a huge price because of it
turned in my server card for the nightlife of a brand ambassador
developed and then later kicked a toxic relationship with cigarettes
graduated with a fresh MBA and no job prospects
started my own business with hopes of leaving the corporate world
met the love of my life but was too preoccupied with useless relationships to notice
finally came to my senses and agreed to be his wife
quit both jobs
had the wedding of my dreams
moved to the country and became a housewife

Didn't I tell you it was a lot? That's definitely not everything but you get the point. At the end of the day, I can truly say that my twenties were the most chaotic, difficult, confusing yet liberating, educational and exciting years of my life. I learned so much about myself and the way of the world that I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Although I've come a very long way, I still have a long way to go and that's okay. Instead of worrying about the things that I don't have, I choose to focus on the things that I do. I will be grateful for the lessons I learned in my twenties and do all that I can to make sure that my thirties turn out even better!!

Cheers to the next 10 years ;-)

XOXO,

  8. Happy early birthday. I wish that before I had turned 30 that I had reflected on my 20s the way that you have. With a little over 4 years before I hit 40 (I don't even feel a day over 25 ;-)) I hope that I will be able to reflect on the last decade or two as you have. Again, Happy Birthday and I know that Chad bka "babe" :) has something wonderful planned for you. Enjoy, God Bless and I'm with Mandi, record some of it :-)

    Take care

  14. I’m such a baby, I read your “20’s reflections” and started to cry. I can relate to some of it. I’m still in my 20’s( late) but it’s become an interesting journey that only God knows whats in store and I can’t wait to see what he has for me… I wouldn’t change anything either because it has molded me for the women I am and to come.. . Thank you I needed that.
